Raphael J. Whitford

Founding Attorney, Whitford & Owen PLLC

Admitted to the Kentucky Bar: 2008

Raphael Whitford has spent most of his legal career doing one thing: helping Kentuckians get out from under debt they can’t afford and start over.

He began practicing bankruptcy law in 2009 and founded what would become Whitford & Owen PLLC shortly after. In the years since, he has personally filed thousands of bankruptcy cases for clients across Louisville and the Western District of Kentucky — from individuals buried in credit card debt to families facing foreclosure, wage garnishment, and repossession.

Today, the firm he built files more than 500 cases per year, making Whitford & Owen one of the highest-volume bankruptcy practices in Kentucky.

What drives Raphael isn’t the volume — it’s what the volume represents. His goal is for every person who comes in stressed or overwhelmed to leave with a gameplan for something better. His favorite part of the job is guiding people from the worst financial moments of their lives toward real stability and opportunity.

Raphael practices exclusively bankruptcy law. He is admitted to practice in the state of Kentucky, as well as the federal districts of Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, and Southern Indiana. He handles both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases.
